I'm delighted to be teaching this online workshop with the Center for Group Studies on Sunday, October 4th, 2020 from 1:00-3:30pm Eastern Time. The workshop is intended for executive coaches, coaching supervisors, therapists who coach, and organizational consultants.

Interactions with clients spark a range of feelings within the coach. Some feelings can interfere with our ability to listen, be curious, and stay present. Or we can get “hooked” when situations resonate with our own personal history. We can also view these feelings as clues that unlock the client’s inner life and illustrate how they relate to others. How can executive coaches best put these emotional data to use towards achieving successful coaching outcomes? This didactic and experiential workshop will introduce participants to a psychodynamic framework for conceptualizing the practitioner’s emotions and techniques for putting them to use.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Distinguish between objective and subjective “countertransference” as it applies to executive coaching.
  2. Identify personal obstacles to knowing about and utilizing emotional data.
  3. Formulate question to elicit, explore and understand emotions that arise in the moment.
