Lessons Learned in Getting Media Attention

Hello Columbia Cohorts!

I was recently featured in Institutional Investor magazine discussing research I conducted for my Cohort 20 CCCP research paper  “Beyond the Hedge:  Coaching to Support Hedge Funds Create Value and Legacies Over Time.”

The piece gave me a terrific opportunity to publicize my work to interested readers with quotes such as this:  “ 'Indeed, hedge funds are particularly bad at succession relative to other industries,' according to executive coach and recruiter Sandy Gross of Pinetum Partners. She conducted a study as part of a certification program at Columbia Business School, and her unpublished paper is likely the first academic research specific to hedge fund succession.”

The article is below:

On my road to getting published, several journals and magazines were intrigued by my work.  But, it took time and effort to modify my paper to fit their individual format requirements and it was not clear that there would be benefits for my business.  I was thrilled that Institutional Investor, whose readers were most likely to be interested in what I had to say, wanted to interview me and write its own article.  Next time I write an article for publication, I plan to save time and energy by making my first step identifying the space that best fits my work and publication goals, and therefore I won't get bogged down in unique formatting requirements.
